Phoenix to Picacho Peak & Picacho Peak to Tucson Biker Profile

April 9, 2010

The past two days were our first challenge with strong headwinds.  Arrrggg!  I am not a fan of making way under a headwind.  It is amazing, the benefit of a tailwind, and the pain of a headwind.

We spent last night camping out at Picacho Peak State Park, a park that will soon be closing due to Arizona’s financial troubles.  It was a site without much coverage, being filled with Saguaro cacti, but lacking any trees.  But we had fun with a hike up the Picacho Peaks after a long day of cycling.  We watched a beautiful sunset, and then ate Hobo Stew, Chris’ invention: meat and vegetables cooked in the ashes of an open fire in a foil pouch.

Jen, Pete and I on our hike on Picachu Peaks.

Tonight we are staying in a synagogue in Tucson.  Tomorrow is our first “day off” and then the day after I am on support again (a 2 day break to recover the legs!!!).
