I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.

April 27, 2010

If the headwind is a riders worst biking companion, I spent a lot of time in bad company today.  This was easily the most miserable day of riding I have ever had.  Although the ride was only 56 miles long, every mile was an excruciating battle toward the goal.

There was nothing redeemable about this day.  It was actually a beautiful sunny day, and the scenery may have been nice, but there was no way to enjoy it when the wind was draining any joy out of life.

The only thing that kept me pushing the last ten miles was that phrase from Philippians, “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.”

The pride and joy of Paris, Texas is their model of the Eiffel Tower, but since Paris, Tennessee built an Eiffel Tower that was slightly taller, Paris, Texas put a large red Stetson style cowboy hat.  The local TV station, Channel-99, brought out a camera crew and their lead anchorman to film us “riding past the Eiffel Tower,” which appeared on the local news.  Katie and Jody are now international stars, which is to say a few dozen people in Paris, TX have now heard of us, if they bothered to keep their TVs on after the excitement of watching the local school lunch menu for the next month.
